New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
