The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and drives. These entities can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the protagonist exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
