The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
