The President Invites Families of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence

Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.

White House Offer

The president explained he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Reaction

Mourners assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.

Honoring the Soldier

“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Judicial Measures and Government Revisions

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The incident led the government to pause asylum applications and halt providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she aimed to visit his relatives.

Memory of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” the governor informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
