UK Prepared to Utilize Immobilized Russian Funds to Support Ukraine's Military Campaign
The United Kingdom is set to progress with utilizing the entire amount of immobilized Russian assets to support Ukraine's defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a shared declaration, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to come to the table.
They added that the move would be implemented in close cooperation with the America.
United Kingdom sanctions have frozen over £25bn of Russia's funds since Russia began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, resources provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had exclusively been taken from gains and dividends earned on them.
Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their aim to drive progress toward using the full value of the seized Russian sovereign assets to conclude the conflict.
He stated that additional measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Moscow.
This declaration is subsequent to EU officials gathered in Copenhagen recently to discuss using frozen Russian holdings for a €140bn financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
In the previous month, US President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to take or employ seized Russia's holdings, as reported by reports.
The value of frozen Russian holdings in the EU is calculated to be almost €211bn.

Russia launched widespread bombardments all over the Ukrainian territory on that day, resulting in blackouts in significant regions of the capital city, the city, and several other zones.
Two people were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the assault, authorities in Ukraine said.
In a message on X subsequent to the incident, Zelensky wrote that the cynical and calculated attack targeted public and utility structures.
"What's needed is not empty words but firm measures - from the United States, Europe, and the seven nations - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and applying sanctions," he stated.
"Every sanction decision diminishes Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
In the same period, Zelensky stated to the press he would press Sir Keir to participate in the PURL programme, under which Nato countries acquire arms from the America to donate to the Ukrainian forces.
While applauding the UK's firm backing for Ukraine, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would take part in the program, as well as impose further sanctions on Russia.
